On air at TNT's Intranet
What do you see?
TNT has a unique intranet feature: TNT Studio. On its intranet TNT discloses video and audio reports, created by employees in ‘TNT Studio’. TNT provides employees with a headset, mike, camera or a MP3 player and gives them the freedom to interview anyone they want within the company. Employees regularly present work-related news, for example the long loading and unloading time at the distribution centre in Berlin, details on the latest energy-saving truck or the reorganisation rumours in the press.
News items are professionally edited and put on the intranet. Employees can retrieve them directly from the intranet or they can burn audio files on CD or download the podcasts and listen to the items while they are en route.
The intranet offers several supporting facilities: an alert function (tell a friend), a program guide, and a feedback option (keep us posted).
Why is it effective?
TNT Studio gives employees a voice: they can invite their boss into the studio and ask their burning questions. The broadcasts enable the reporters to ventilate their opinion and share it with others. Employees feel committed because they create the news items themselves.
What’s next
As we have not yet seen this development on any other company intranet, we feel TNT has set a trend. It is an ultimate combination of providing information and news, involving employees and having them create content (user generated!), thereby using an integrated-channel approach.
